Edgar Beaumont was a rather unfortunate looking man. With his long, bulbous nose, droopy ears and a permanent frown, he was often the ugliest man in the room. His personality did not redeem him - he had a horrid temper and would often lash out at others.

His appearance had given him self-esteem issues, and he had a deep-seated fear of looking stupid that made him pigheaded.

Fortunately for Edgar, he did have one redeeming factor: he was also the Emperor.

So instead of a life of solitude and sorrow, he had a life of fine wine, parties, and a bevy of beautiful women that followed him around, hoping to gain favor.

If the walls of the Emperor’s bedroom could talk, they would speak of wild orgies and countless pretty young things parading themselves for the Emperor.

Despite this, being the Emperor of the Empire of Lorema was tough. Nobody else seemed to realize it, but it was difficult sitting up on that uncomfortable throne for hours on end, being forced to listen to dull petitions from peasants who always wanted something from him.

"Help, my neighbor is building a fence on my land!"

"Help, my wife was stolen by bandits!"

"Help, I don't have enough food to feed my children!"

He didn't truly care about any of them, but knew he had to pretend to. Even peasants could be dangerous if enough of them rose up against him.

That knowledge didn't stop him from being dreadfully bored though.

He called for the next petitioner, and sat up straight when two well dressed, handsome young men made their way forward to kneel before the throne.

They weren't peasants, he knew that much.

He wondered what they wanted. After a long string of complaints from peasants, any distraction was a welcome diversion.

"Your Majesty," one of the men said respectfully as they knelt. He was quite handsome, the Emperor had to admit with some jealousy. He had a strong jawline and slate blue eyes. The other man had similar attractive features. He wondered whether they were related.

Edgar gave a slight nod. "What is your purpose here?" he asked.

"My name is Adam Ballard. This is my brother, Roger. We are skilled tailors from the kingdom of Loreilles. We have a business proposition for you."
